SPEED-5G’s new technical manager – Seiamak Vahid from University of Surrey
Seiamak Vahid is a Senior Research fellow at the University of Surrey in the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) with a PhD in wireless communications.
From 2001, Seiamak worked in the Motorola system division, initially as team leader working on UMTS/HSPA and later on LTE, providing technical solutions to system architecture and UTRAN network design and trial support teams. As principal staff engineer he had overall responsibility for UTRAN interfaces and protocols requirement specifications, the UTRAN planning, definition of KPIs, algorithms specification, development and verification. He was a member of the LTE architecture team, and delivered contributions on design and specification of external and internal interfaces. He was also the division IA lead and security champion responsible for all aspects of product security across all platforms, applications and tools.
Upon re-joining the ICS in 2010, he got involved in the ONEFIT project. His current research interests include network architecture and protocols for next generation communication systems, SDN/NFV, multiple access, resource management, optimization techniques and their applications to cellular and ad-hoc wireless communication networks.
